Kevin P. Allen

Kevin Allen

Kevin Allen is one of the firm’s partners, with ten years of civil litigation and trial experience. His practice primarily focuses on defending police officers and departments in civil rights actions, including: detention/arrest; use-of-force; procedural and substantive due process; malicious prosecution; First Amendment retaliatory arrest/prosecution/use-of-force; Monell; supervisory liability; racial discrimination, and Bane Act. Mr. Allen also defends self-insureds and other transportation clients in general civil litigation. He has second-chaired four trials, most recently Booke v. City of Sanger, et al. (February 25, 2016). The three most recent trials (February 2014, December 2015, and February 2016) were all police cases. Mr. Allen takes an aggressive approach to defending his clients, including an active motion practice. He also gives client presentations throughout the year.

Mr. Allen is a certified Force Science® Analyst, successfully completing the Force Science® Institute’s 40-hour course in March 2015. The course concerned the human dynamic of officer-involved shootings. Topics included vision, human factors, excited delirium, and cognitive interviewing. These scientific principles shed light on why use-of-force can occur and how to increase the likelihood of obtaining information post-incident. They can be applied to use-of-force investigations and to defense of police officers in civil lawsuits.

Mr. Allen, a 5th-generation San Franciscan, attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory before matriculating to the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. A member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Honors Society, he graduated from the College cum laude, with a B.A. in political science.

Mr. Allen subsequently attended the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he graduated with a J.D. in 2007.
